Simply put exfoliation is the procedure of removing the top layer of dead skin cells, ether through chemical or mechanical methods. and this can help in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Diligent Exfoliation will improve the appearance of your skin and it works as a gentle resurfacing technique. Exfoliation can also help to remove the fine lines and wrinkles on your face and reduce the appearance on ageing.
Extreme forms of exfoliation such as chemical peels and dermabrasion are usually performed in a dermatologist’s office under. Normaly, the more amount of skin that subsequently is removed by these procedures, the more profound the results will be in terms of the appearance of wrinkles. With that said, more recovery time will be required in order for the skin to be repaired as a result of more skin being removed by the exfoliation procedure. Recovery time can range from a few hours for at-home exfoliation to several weeks or months for a harsh chemical peel.
I this article tho we will only look at the at-home exfoliation method.
So how does the exfoliation process affect the skin?
The exfoliation process usually helps to stimulate and activate the renewal your skin cells. As we get older, our skin renewal cycle slows down usually form around 15 days to roughly around 28 days. The new longer renewal cycle will usually result in more dry, thicker, dull skin appearance. Exfoliation will on top of removing this dead cell buildup but it will also expose the younger, healthy cells hidden underneath. This will results in a more glowing and vibrant looking face.
The mechanical act of exfoliation, commonly known as scrubbing, stimulates the blood that flows to to the skin, enabling your skin to receive all the necessary nutrients that it needs for renewal.
Ok! So how does exfoliation affect my wrinkles?
Well the act of exfoliation actually removes the top dead layer of skin, thinking the surface of the skin. This will in turn reduce the appearance of wrinkles as they are usually lines being help in place by the dead skin cell layer. Regular exfoliation will gradually race wrinkles and fine lines.
So how should I exfoliate my skin?
For the best results we recommend you use either a gentle abrasive, granular product like jojoba beads or a chemical exfoliant containing alpha hydroxy acids. Please don’t use a rough washcloth or sponge, you really want to be gentle with your exfoliation process. Choose a soft, natural sponge were possible.
Always follow the directions as directed on your exfoliation product whether it be mechanical or chemical, avoid exfoliating daily. Once a week is more that enough for mechanical methods and once every month or so for chemical methods.
Please note that products containing alpha hydroxy acids will literally dissolve the outer layers of your skin and it is vital that you follow the directions and use them with care. My advice would be to only have a qualified individual administer these types of exfoliants.
